The fate of Ukshin Hoti, the best known Albanian political prisoner scheduled for release on 17 May 1999 after serving a five-year term, remains unknown. He served four and a half years of his sentence in Nis and was then taken to the prison in Sremska Mitrovica, where he remained until the transfer to the Dubrava prison in Istok on 30 April 1999. His family is in Macedonia. A Pristina lawyer who wanted to be present on his release was denied information about what happened to Hoti and why was not he released on 17 May as scheduled.
